Longtime Bedlam associate Bryony (who you may have met by the merch stand at our gigs) deserves a song for being brilliant and since she's celebrating a milestone birthday we figured it was a good enough reason to reform the band and record together in her honour. The song charts the relationship between Louis and Bryony from meeting at Manchester University in their late teens, getting together in their twenties and moving to the Isle of Skye in their mid-thirties.

lyrics

Minesweeping
What a way to start a lifetime with someone
As the lights go up on Indie Disco night
There’s Lady & The Tramp but with a pint of snakebite
I’m keeping
All those Star & Garter memories locked up tight
The drunk boys drifting in hungry shoals
Skinny girls tottering like new-born foals
Now we’re both getting older
Nights seem a little colder
Worries the size of boulders
I know I know
It’s nothing we can’t shoulder
Has anybody told you
Recently

You get better and better and better
You get better and better and better

Forgiving
All the foolish things we did when we were young
But if we weren’t fools then you might have passed me by
Someone serious could’ve caught your eye
Now it’s pure living
Our high-rise horizon swapped for heather and hill
The rain’s not the same as it was in the town
And the wind blows through you rather than around
And yeah, everything is aching
Pieces of me are breaking
Prescriptions we’re both taking
I know I know
I’ve got a little fatter
It really doesn’t matter
‘Cos each day makes me sure that(a)

You get better and better and better
You get better and better and better

We inherited each other
From two people I barely remember being
But the wrinkles cannot cover
All the little wonders I still love seeing
Sometimes there’s no smooth just rough
I know I don’t say this enough
But

You get better and better and better
You get better and better and better

Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam Six Manchester

Between 2006-2016 the Bedlams relentlessly peddled their peculiar brand of Dirt-Swing, capturing the imaginations of every species of listenership, winning support from the likes of Supergrass, The Mighty Boosh, Har Mar Superstar, UB40, Mark Steel, The Hell’s Angels and BBC Radio, inspiring stage invasions, dancing in the aisles and a confused mixture of exhaustion and bonhomie wherever they went ... more
